NBA betting: With Anthony Davis injured, bettors backing Suns over Lakers in Game 5
With Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis potentially sidelined due to a groin injury, bettors are siding with the Phoenix Suns in Game 5 of their first-round series on Tuesday night.
The series is back in Phoenix tied at two games apiece and the Suns are currently five-point favorites at BetMGM. As of Tuesday morning, 66% of the bets and 71% of the money were on Phoenix’s side.
The Suns won Game 1 comfortably at home before the Lakers responded with back-to-back victories to take a 2-1 series edge. Facing the prospect of going down 3-1 in the series, the Suns rallied on Sunday as 6.5-point underdogs in Los Angeles with a 100-92 victory.
While Suns point guard Chris Paul battled through his shoulder injury and posted 18 points and nine assists, Davis was injured in the second quarter and did not return to the floor in the second half for the Lakers. The Suns built a big lead in the third quarter and eventually held on for the win.
Davis, who had already been dealing with knee soreness, now has the groin injury among his list of ailments. Lakers coach Frank Vogel told reporters Monday that Davis underwent an MRI which confirmed a groin strain. Though Davis is listed on the team’s injury report as questionable, the Lakers are not optimistic that he will be able to suit up on Tuesday night according to ESPN.
Three of the four games in the series have gone under the total. Tuesday night’s matchup has the lowest total of the series thus far at 207.5. As of Tuesday morning, 50% of the bets and 59% of the money are on the under.
Bettors confident Nuggets will bounce back
Like the Lakers and Suns, the Denver Nuggets vs. Portland Trail Blazers series is also headed to Game 5 tied at 2-2. The Blazers won Game 4 in blowout fashion over the weekend, but bettors are confident that the Nuggets will bounce back.
Denver is currently a 2-point favorite at home for Tuesday night. According to BetMGM, the Nuggets have received 78% of the bets and 73% of the money.
Meanwhile, the total has ticked up a point from 225.5 to 226.5. Bettors are on the over with 83% of the tickets and 72% of the money siding with the over.
Nets look to close out series vs. Celtics
With Kemba Walker likely out again, the Boston Celtics are huge underdogs as they face elimination in Game 5 of their series with the Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets opened at -11.5, but are now favored by 12.5 points. That’s a huge number, but the majority of bettors at BetMGM think the Nets can cover the spread. As of Tuesday morning, 60% of the bets and 64% of the money for Tuesday night’s game were on the Nets.
Bettors are also on the over. As such, the total has moved two points from 231.5 to 233.5. Per BetMGM, 83% of the bets and 84% of the money are on the over. The over has hit comfortably in the last three games in this particular series, including by a whopping 38 points in Game 4.
