Feb 4 (The Sports Xchange) - Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will need season-ending surgery, the team announced Saturday. LaVine was injured during Friday's 116-108 road loss to the Detroit Pistons. He drove through the lane, and attempted a layup while colliding with Detroit center Andre Drummond near the basket. LaVine made the shot but fell hard and clutch his left knee. LaVine won the NBA dunk contest in his first two seasons. This year, the former UCLA standout is averaging career-highs of 18.9 points, 3.4 assists and 37.2 minutes per game. - - - Yogi Ferrell scored a career-high 32 points Friday in Portland and when his first 10-day contract expires, the guard will get a two-year contract from the Dallas Mavericks. The Vertical reported Saturday that Ferrell will get a two-year deal from the Mavericks on Tuesday. The report surfaced after Ferrell scored 71 points in four wins for Dallas, culminating when he made nine 3-pointers at Portland. Ferrell spent four years at Indiana, went undrafted and began this season with the Brooklyn Nets and appeared in 10 games. He averaged 18.7 points in 18 games in the D-League and signed a 10-day contract with the Mavericks on Jan. 28. - - - The Golden State Warriors signed guard Briante Weber to a 10-day contract. Weber, 24, has appeared in 31 games (all starts) with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League this season. - - - The Sacramento Kings recalled rookie center Georgios Papagiannis from the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League, the team announced.
