Neil Lennon 'disappointed' with Celtic Champions League showing as Brugge Parkhead-nulling efforts lauded
Celtic legend Neil Lennon admits that he was 'disappointed' with the Hoops' performance against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night - with the Hoops only toiling to a 1-1 draw against the Belgian champions under the Parkhead lights.
Cameron Carter-Vickers' comedic own goal in the first half ensured the moans and groans were felt far and wide in the east end, with the Hoops heading into the interval a goal down - but Daizen Maeda's superb strike on the hour rescued a result that leaves Celtic on eight points from five games, and still in the driving seat for knockout qualification.
However, despite adding to their points tally, Hoops icon Lennon stated that he wasn't happy with the performance and result - hinting that it was two points dropped which would have seen Celtic all but through to the next round of the tournament.
Speaking on TNT Sports, the former Hoops player and boss further praised Brugge for their ability to nullify the Celtic Park crowd, stating:
“I have to say I’m disappointed. It was a piece of brilliance from Maeda to get the goal back, and Celtic sort of huffed and puffed, but I don’t remember Mignolet having to make many good saves.
"Whereas at the other end of the pitch, they’ve had a goal disallowed, Schmeichel’s made a great save just after half time and they’ve missed a volley at the far post where they should have scored.
“I was so impressed with Brugge, and you’ve got to take the point. Celtic will be better for it, but I always think at home you have to win these games. I think Brugge were quite content to sit and soak up whatever Celtic were going to throw at them.
“They looked the more dangerous side and were really slick tonight, some of their one-touch passing on the counter-attack was really good - it’s a learning process.
"I have to hold my hands up and say Brugge really surprised me tonight. They kept the crowd quiet for long periods of the game tonight.”
