Ally McCoist was forced to turn his radio OFF as Alan Brazil and Neil Lennon lapped up Celtic's emphatic Champions League victory.

The Hoops thrashed Slovan Bratislava 5-1 at Parkhead last night to record their first-ever opening day win in Europe's top competition at the 13th attempt. Celts had FIVE different goalscorers on the scoresheet as they soared into second spot behind Bayern Munich in the new-look league phase. It's a night that will live long in the memory of the green-and-white faithful as Brendan Rodgers aims to restore the Glasgow giants' reputation in Europe.

But for those on the blue side of the city, it was another brutal reminder of the chasm that currently exists between both bitter rivals. Rangers legend McCoist couldn't stomach listening to his two gloating pals boast over Celtic's special night as Lennon was invited onto talkSPORT this morning. As host Brazil and guest Lennon pondered Celtic's chances of reaching the knockouts, co-presenter Gabby Agbonlahor interrupted to reveal a text from McCoist.

He said: "Neil, I've just got a message off Ally. He said: 'Just turned the radio off. Those two... shocking. Bratislava were absolutely awful.'"

Former Hoops boss and captain Lennon couldn't resist a cheeky dig back, teasing: "Yeah, but he'll be watching the Europa League this season, Gabby. We're in the big one."

Wind-up merchant Brazil also got involved, taunting: "They could win the Glasgow Cup this year?"

Lennon laughed: "Well yeah. They might get over the line on that one." On a serious note, the Northern Irishman added: "It's a good draw for Celtic, there are tough away games coming up now with Dortmund and Atalanta. But I think the momentum from last night will give the team a lot of confidence."

Brazil aimed one last barb at Gers by asking: "I'll be deadly honest, there's clearly problems at Rangers. Are Aberdeen and Hearts Celtic's biggest challengers this year or will Rangers come strong?"

Chuckling Lennon replied: "Well Aberdeen have had a great start under the new coach Jimmy Thelin. But I expect Rangers to improve as the season goes on. I think they'll get a bit of a lift from the Europa League. They've got some cracking games against Spurs and Man United. It's been a difficult start for Clement but under the circumstances, he's doing the best job that anyone can do."
