Neil Robertson: Video game addiction affected my snooker and personal life

Neil Robertson, the 2010 snooker world champion, has admitted an addiction to video games affected both his professional and personal life.

The 35-year-old winner looks on course for a place in the second round after taking an 8-1 lead over Noppon Saengkham, of Thailand.

But he said hours of playing the likes of World of Warcraft, Fifa and League of Legends had a negative impact on him.

"In the past, I’ve been staying up and playing it," he said.

"Then all of a sudden it is 6am, the birds are tweeting and I’m thinking ‘oh my god, I’ve got to get up in a couple of hours to take my son Alexander to school, then I’ve got to practice’.

"If you are single and work in a normal job, you can get around it but you can’t win pro snooker matches when you are tired."
