Tim Burton's Netflix original about the Addams family had Jenna Ortega fans binge-watching Wednesday in a matter of days. The first series follows the "smart, sarcastic and a little dead inside" Wednesday Addams, who is investigating a mysterious murder spree that plagued her parents 25 years prior, while starting at new school Nevermore Academy.

The highly anticipated drama dropped at the end of 2022, quickly becoming one of the most-watched Netflix shows EVER. Unsurprisingly, fans are already looking ahead to more episodes. Here's everything we know about Wednesday season 2, from expected release date to who might star.

Has Wednesday season 2 been confirmed?

YES! Netflix finally confirmed the news on 6th January, in an exclusive interview with creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar on Tudum.com. They said, "It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first."

Previously, Alfred Gough expressed his interest in more episodes, too, telling Empire, "[Screenwriter] Miles [Millar] and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There's definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses."

What might happen in Wednesday season 2?

Previously, Alfred Gough has opened up about where he'd like to see Wednesday's character go in the future. He told TVLine, "The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and learning there are shades of grey.

"I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be smooth sailing. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship."

Gough went on to reveal that he'd like to see more from the rest of Wednesday's family in a potential season two. That's Wednesday's mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), father Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). He told TVLine, "We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles."

However, he added that creators "really want to focus the show on Wednesday," but that they "definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes, if we were to get a second season."

Who has been cast in Wednesday season 2?

While the cast hasn't been announced, fans can assume much of the season one cast would be back:

  • Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams

  • Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia

  • Luis Guzmán as Gomez

  • Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley

  • Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester

What is Wednesday season 2's expected release date?

It's hard to know for sure because it hasn't been confirmed, which also means production hasn't started and no filming has been done. If we look at the timeline of season one, which began filming in September 2021 and wrapped production in March 2022, it took eight months for the show to land on Netflix.

Following this pattern, if season two of Wednesday were to be confirmed before Christmas, they'd need six months to film, and eight months of post-production and editing - making early 2024 feel likely. Fingers crossed!

Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
