The two-time Olympic champion sealed her eighth sprint win of the season in a time of 22:11.5minutes, 16 seconds clear of her nearest rival in the standings Belarus’ Darya Domracheva who ended up third.

In what could be the final sprint race of her career before she heads off into retirement the 25-year-old Neuner overcame two misses on the shooting range to power to gold while Ukraine’s Vita Semerenko was second, 3.2seconds back.

Neuner’s victory seals the smaller crystal globe for the sprints while also extending her lead over Domracheva in the overall standings to 44 points, while reigning champion Kaisa Makarainen was fourth on the day.
