Nevada boys win third straight, takes down Monett

Jan. 31—After winning at El Dorado Springs on Friday, the Nevada Tigers topped Lamar and Monett to start this week.

On Tuesday night, the Tigers (12-9) beat the Cubs (7-14) 66-47. Monday night saw them take down the Tigers of Lamar 62-51. Both games were at home.

Nevada was able to turn it on defensively in the fourth quarter by holding Monett to 6 points. The Tigers led by 8 at halftime, 32-24. A 22-point third quarter helped them to get cushion entering the final stanza.

Brice Budd led the Tigers with 22 points while Jack Cheaney chipped in 12 more.

Monett (7-14) was led by Landyn Brandt's 15 and Ian Waterman's 13.


Cheaney tallied 20 points in Nevada's win over Lamar and Kellen Braden helped out with 14.

The Nevada Tigers managed to hold Ian Ngugi to just 13 points and he was the only Lamar player in double figures.

It was 15-10 in favor of Nevada after one quarter. It stretched the lead to 35-27 at intermission. The home squad held a comfortable 14-point advantage after three quarters of play.
