Leicester City fans have had their say after Steve Cooper was sacked as manager after their 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.

The Welshman was dismissed after just five months in charge after taking over from Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca in the summer, leading the Foxes to 16th place and just one point above the relegation zone at the time of his sacking.

A disconnect with the fans has been touted as one of the main reasons for Cooper's departure with the harsh transition in style of play from Maresca's expansive football to the ex-Nottingham Forest manager's quick, counterattacking football proving tough to take.

Foxes fans have taken to X to voice their opinions on the sacking with @ciarandurham stating: "It was never going to work, we got it very wrong in the summer and I’m glad we pulled the trigger before the other clubs have."

@chris_railway added: "Cooper is a nice guy, but it just wasn’t happening on the pitch. Better to make the decision sooner rather than leaving it too late as happened in 22-23."

Leicester have acted uncharacteristically early in their decision to get rid of Cooper, having previously given managers time to prove themselves.

However, it is argued that the hierarchy waited until it was too late in their decision to part ways with Brendan Rodgers in their 2022/23 relegation season and may have learned from their previous error.

Foxes fan @LCFC1884VERDICT said: "He seemed like a nice bloke, but this is the Prem and we haven’t got time to wait for things to magically turn around. We’ve played badly for long periods in virtually every game we’ve played this season & every point we’ve won had a slice of luck. I just pray the club has a plan"

@Birdiex94x continued: "Wow it’s done. Seemed a nice guy but questionable tactics and subs etc were frustrating. Wish him well but now intrigued to see if we go for RVN or Potter etc? Fair play for acting quickly unlike with Brendan."

Another fan @lcfc_zoone said: "You gotta feel for Cooper tho, dragged into a challenge the board knew he couldn’t handle. Seems like a lovely bloke but just didn’t work out."

@ajwatchLCFC even went as far as to post: "Any #lcfc fan would not be shocked at SC sacking! The worst manager we have had in the last 30 years! He had no tactics and no game plan."

A general consensus of goodwill for Cooper has been coupled with thoughts that the club have made the right decision in letting him go.

However, some outsiders have expressed surprise at the decision, with pundit and ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson saying: "Unreal Leicester sacking Steve cooper not even in the bottom 3...what do they expect from this season at the start free flowing football and Europe?"

The Foxes face Brentford next on Saturday, with it currently unclear whether a new manager will be appointed before the game.

Ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter are the current frontrunners for the job.
