Tim Tebow apparently refused to swear with the Jets, even while calling plays
Tim Tebow apparently refused to utter a swear word of any kind during his football playing days.
Yes, even if that swear word was part of a legitimate play call.
According to former New York Jets center Nick Mangold, Tebow constantly went out of his way to avoid saying the word “s- - t” while he was with the team in 2012.
"We had a play that was the 'Y Oh S- - t' screen, where the tight end actually fakes like he fell down on a running play, hops up, runs back over, throw back to the tight end and it's usually wide open,” Mangold, who was with the Jets from 2006-2016, said on the Endless Hustle podcast.
“[Tebow] goes through the whole formation and gets to the last play: 'Y, Alright Screen … you guys know what it is.' And we're like, 'No Tim, what is it?' He goes, 'No, I'm not going to say it.’”
The former Florida standout and Heisman Trophy winner was with the Jets for just the 2012 season, following a two-year stint with the Denver Broncos. He’s now an ESPN analyst and playing in the New York Mets’ minor league system.
Based on the squeaky-clean image Tebow portrayed throughout his playing career, Mangold’s story makes a ton of sense.
That’s not to say that Tebow has never uttered a swear word in his life. According to Florida coach Dan Mullen, the offensive coordinator with the Gators while Tebow was there, the 33-year-old let loose one time on the team bus.
“We’re on the bus, getting ready to get off the bus, and the Gator Walk is out of control – the bus was rocking,” Mullen said at a fan event in 2018, via The New York Post. “Tebow gets up on the bus, drops an ‘F’ bomb in front of the team.
“He will deny it until he dies, but I’m telling you what – I think we won by 40-something that night. The game was over before it started.”
It appears as if that was a one-time thing — even when Tebow had a perfect, valid excuse.
