Newcastle are ‘charging’ to sign Julian Draxler as Paris Saint-Germain ‘work hard’ to find the playmaker a new club.

Draxler has contributed 26 goals and 41 assists in close to 200 appearances for PSG since his move to the Parcs des Prince for £33m from Wolfsburg in January 2017.

But the 28-year-old started just five Ligue 1 games last term and is yet to make an appearance this season as PSG desperately try to find a buyer for him.

A report in July claimed Newcastle were in talks with Draxler’s representatives as PSG told the attacking midfielder that ‘if he closes all the doors that come his way, he will not play at PSG’.

That report claimed the Ligue 1 side would accept a bid of around €20m from Newcastle.

Not much has changed since according to Media Foot (via Sport Witness), who state that PSG are ‘working hard’ to find Draxler a new club, despite the player ‘refusing offers’ for most of the summer.

And they again highlight Newcastle’s interest, with the Magpies now ‘charging’ to sign Draxler before the end of the transfer window.

‘An offensive will take place on Wednesday’, though this latest report doesn’t hint at a transfer fee.

But that appears to be the lesser of Newcastle’s concerns in getting the deal done, with Draxler – who has two years left on his current deal – yet to hint that he has any desire to leave the French giants.

Should Draxler arrive he will be following Alexander Isak to St James’ Park, after the Sweden international completed a £60m switch from Real Sociedad.

On completion of the deal for Isak, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: “I’m very excited that Alexander has chosen to join us. He is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.

“He is technically very good, with a mix of attributes that will complement us, but he is also at a great age to grow with this club.

“I want to thank the club’s owners and transfer committee for bringing Alexander to Newcastle. We are all delighted to have him on board.”

Sweden international Isak is looking forward to getting started, he said: “I’m delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.

“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.

“You always want to go into a team and know how they play. Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that.”
