Newcastle are continuing their talks with Manchester United over goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has been a long term target for the Magpies.

Henderson has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside in recent years with Newcastle making an approach for him in the January transfer window.

United were unwilling to sanction his departure in January but it does look likely that he will depart Old Trafford this summer.

He made just three appearances for United last season, with none of them coming in the Premier League and with a World Cup coming up at the end of the year, Henderson will need first-team football.

The 25-year-old was not selected in the most recent England squad with manager Gareth Southgate going for Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal and Burnley’s Nick Pope.

It was reported earlier this year that Newcastle were closing in on the signing of Henderson, however, the rumours appear to have quietened off in recent weeks.

However, 90min are now reporting that the two clubs are continuing their talks over a potential deal that see the goalkeeper move to the north-east.

The report also suggests that much of the discussions are based around whether it will be a loan deal or a permanent move.

Meanwhile, United star Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about the arrival of new boss Erik Ten Hag before claiming they will be back where they belong soon.

“I knew he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change they way he wants,” he said in a video posted on the club’s Twitter account.

“I hope we have success of course because if you have success, all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best.

“We are happy and excited – not only the players, but the supporters as well.

“I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year we’re going to win trophies.

“For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong.

“As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.”
