Newcastle ‘get serious’ with stunning move for Man Utd target who’ll move for mind-boggling fee
Newcastle are lining up a stunning move for a Man Utd-linked World Cup winner who’d greatly aid their cause when returning to the Champions League next season, per a report.
Barring a late-season collapse, Newcastle will grace the Champions League for the first time since 2003 next season.
The Magpies hold a nine-point advantage over fifth-placed Liverpool, With both sides having just five games remaining, Newcastle can begin planning for their return to Europe’s premier competition.
To that end, Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb report Newcastle are lining up Roma and Argentina forward, Paulo Dybala.
The 29-year-old has returned to form this term with 16 goals and eight assists notched across all competitions.
Dybala is thriving under Jose Mourinho after leaving Juventus last summer. However, per CMW, Mourinho is ‘trembling’ as the suitors prepare to pluck his newest star.
Man Utd have been linked with Dybala throughout 2023. CMW put Juventus in the frame to bring Dybala back to Turin, though another team in black and white are posing a threat.
Newcastle are reportedly ‘determined’ to make a move and will ‘get serious’ for Dybala.
From the player’s perspective, it’s claimed he’s open to the idea of testing his mettle in the Premier League. Dybala won’t push to leave Roma, though he’ll be emboldened to explore his options if they fail to qualify for next season’s UCL.
Roma currently sit sixth in Serie A, though are only being kept out of fourth spot on goal difference. If they fail to qualify through league position, winning the Europa League would be another route in. Roma drew Bayer Leverkusen at the semi-final stage.
Dybala would bring a wealth of European experience with him if brought to Tyneside and that’s something Eddie Howe’s squad currently lacks.
He’s also versatile, being capable of operating as a false nine, behind the striker or on the right flank.
Dybala available for staggeringly low fee
On the subject of how much a deal will cost, Dybala can be signed for a mind-bogglingly low €12m (approx. £10.5m).
That’s due to a release clause within Dybala’s contract, with the Argentine available for different sums depending on who bids.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported if a non-Italian side make their move, Dybala can go for €12m and Roma will be powerless to resist.
Alternatively, Italian sides can activate the release clause for €20m (approx. £17.5m), though Roma can “cancel” the move by triggering a salary rise from €3.8m per year to €6m.
CMW conclude Newcastle ‘is ready to get serious’ for Dybala and Mourinho is ‘really shaking’.
