An Arsenal star who is growing increasingly frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities is reportedly looking for an escape route out of The Emirates and Newcastle could provide it.

Kieran Tierney was lauded as a real coup for the Gunners when he signed on the dotted line from Celtic in August 2019 in a £25million deal, but injuries and the summer arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko have scuppered his chances of playing more regularly.

Indeed, Zinchenko’s importance in Mikel Arteta’s formation, where he quite often moves into central midfield to outnumber the opposition, has made life even tougher for the Scotland international.

Tierney is now fit again after a knee injury. However, he’s been forced to watch on from the bench as Arsenal maintain their Premier League title charge.

The 25-year-old was an unused substitute yet again as Arteta’s men won 1-0 at Leicester on Saturday. That result maintained their two-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table, although the Gunners do have a game in hand.

And it appears that Tierney’s frustration has prompted other clubs to see if they can tempt him with a move.

Sunday’s edition of the Daily Mirror states that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle could swoop for the defender. A fee of around £30million is being mooted.

The report even adds that Tierney is open to a move to the North East, where the big-spending Magpies are plotting big things.

Newcastle will be gunning for their first major trophy in 68 years when they face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

However, their ambitions are far higher in terms of Premier League glory, while they also want to become Champions League regulars.

That sort of profile appeals to Tierney, especially when the best he can hope for is cameo appearances at Arsenal.

Newcastle are not just eyeing Tierney though, with several other big names tipped for a summer move.

Leicester playmaker James Maddison remains a £50million target, while the Magpies are also competing with Tottenham to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie.

Meanwhile, the Mirror also reports that Newcastle are also monitoring exciting young Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who was captured from Bohemians, has been compared to a young Alan Shearer.
