Newcastle United have reportedly launched a late deadline day move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris - and they could have some extra time in which to seal a potential deal.

While the transfer window is set to close at 11pm tonight, Newcastle could have an extra two hours in which to finalise a shock swoop for Lloris. As per The Times, Eddie Howe’s side want to sign Lloris on a season-long loan but the Frenchman, so far, is unwilling to make the switch to St James’ Park.

Should the 36-year-old’s stance change, however, fans may worry that a deal is unlikely anyway with the clock ticking towards the deadline and plenty of paperwork still to be completed.

But, as per Premier League rules, United can be given until 1am to complete a deal - providing that the club have submitted a ‘Deal Sheet’.

These sheets provide details of the impending transfer and confirm that an agreement has been reached, before providing clubs with extra time in which to submit all the required documentation.

The details required on this sheet are fairly basic and amount to the clubs and player involved and the fee being paid, if there is one. Deal sheets cannot be requested until 9pm on transfer deadline day and then must be submitted, fully completed, by 11pm.

Once received and approved by the Premier League, clubs can then be granted permission to submit all the required transfer paperwork by a 1am deadline.

An approach for Lloris has since been rubbished by multiple sources with Eddie Howe confirming earlier today that Newcastle had concluded their summer transfer business.

What’s more is United already have four goalkeepers on their books in Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie.
