Players come and players go, that's just football, right? And even though that is true, most of us can't help but think of those who we wished had stayed longer at our club.

Maybe it was the sale no one had expected, perhaps it ended on bad terms, and maybe it was just the circle of life - a bigger club comes and takes your best player. No matter the reason, sometimes certain goodbyes hurt that little bit more.

On this week's episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast, our Newcastle United Editor Aaron Stokes joined me to bring a different type of episode to our usual offering.

With it being the international break we decided to change the format and bring you a Newcastle United starting XI each made up of players who we wished had stayed longer. After talking through our picks, we then had to decide on a single starting eleven with any duplicates getting an automatic pass.

Unsurprisingly, myself and Aaron did have some of the same players in our XI's - and undoubtedly if you picks yours, you'd probably pick a few of the same as well.

What criteria do our picks need to meet? Well in truth, they've only had to leave Newcastle. We decided not to settle on a length of time that the players had to leave the club within or that they had to be a success or not at the club - simply, if they left and we felt it was too soon, then they were able to be picked.

Indeed one player who made it into the team played for Newcastle for over a decade. We'll not spoil the teams for you as we really think you'll enjoy the episode.

What we will say, the final team that comes out of the 22 players who made the cut is a team that we think would have won the Premier League title. Of course, it's all dreams and fantasy but why not have a little bit of fun thinking about what may have been if each of these Toon stars had played in the same team?

You can watch it here on YouTube or listen to it via clicking here. The Everything is Black and White Podcast is the award winning Newcastle United show that brings you at least six episodes per week.
