Newcastle United transfer reality as reluctant decision to sell made
Newcastle United are being linked with an exciting deal in France as the club consider their options for a move in the transfer market this January. Having seem their summer transfer window dominated for the most part by first a combination of Profit and Sustainability Rules, and then a protracted and ultimately failed bid to land Marc Guehi, the Mags are expected to be in the market to strengthen when the transfer window reopens on January 1, 2025.
As has been the case for the past two windows, strengthening out wide with a new recruit is on Newcastle's to-do list and as such will be the source of much attention. A host of names have been linked previously, many more will no doubt be linked in the coming weeks.
The latest names to be mentioned are Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Cherki and Lille's Jonathan David, according to a report in the I newspaper. France under-21 international Cherki is seen as a talented winger with a bright future ahead and has already attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon are currently in a difficult financial situation and there is an expectation they will have to sell players, with French newspaper L’Équipe now reporting that a January move away by Cherki is highly likely. Liverpool are reportedly readying a £17m bid for Cherki, a bid which is expected to be turned down by the French side, who are holding out for a figure closer to £30m.
Newcastle will have to get close to that £30m figure if they are to beat off some big-hitters to land the talented winger.
