Newcastle United's remarkable attacking statement Eddie Howe would love to make evoking Keegan
Eddie Howe has spoken of his admiration for Newcastle United's great Entertainers team with the Monday night clash against West Ham evoking memories of one of Kevin Keegan's best ever nights.
The Monday Night Football game, featured on Sky Sports, in 1996 between these two teams resulted in the Magpies conjuring up over 40 goal attempts in a 3-0 win. Keegan's side had Peter Beardsley, Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, Tino Asprilla and Rob Lee all on the field together.
When asked if the defensive structures of Premier League teams in the modern game mean it would be too difficult to emulate such a stunning set of attacking statistics, Howe accepted that creating chances has became harder over the years.

Howe told Chronicle Live: "I don't think we have hit that level since I've been here. It would be nice to! We'd love a game like that but I think more often than not I think it's probably half that than the 40 in an average game. We're averaging slightly less than that in terms of total shots in a game.
"I think we were last year and we have been pretty consistent in the last couple of years. I think tactically now teams are very astute, a lot of teams defensively their structures are very good as we hope ours is."
United have just 13 Premier League goals to their name after 11 matches and are the lowest scorers in the top half of the table. That's a major contrast to last term when Howe's team blasted in 85 goals in total in the Premier League, with only Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City managing more.
But Howe insists he will stick to his offensive tactics and feels the goals will start to flow once again for his players. Howe said: "It is tough to score in the Premier League now although the goal tallies for us were very high last year and very high in the Premier League in general.
"The challenge is always to be a free flowing attacking team so that is what we'll try to be."
