Eddie Howe will take charge of his first Newcastle United game as Brentford visit St James’ Park, although remotely after testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

The former Bournemouth manager was appointed on Tyneside after the departure of Steve Bruce in the aftermath of the completion of the Saudi-backed takeover of the club.

Thomas Frank’s Brentford will be Howe’s first opponents and hoping to end a run of four successive defeats that has seen the West Londoners plunge to fourteenth in the Premier League table.

They are, however, seven points clear of struggling Newcastle, who are yet to win this season and have conceded the second most goals in the top-flight.

Howe’s first meeting with Brentford came 12 years ago when his Bournemouth side beat the Bees in a League Two fixture.

Date, kick-off time and venue

The match at St James’ Park is scheduled for a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Where to watch Newcastle vs Brentford

Due to the 3pm blackout across football in England, fans will be unable to watch the game live.

However, highlights will be available on Match of the Day, broadcast at 10.30pm on Saturday on BBC One.

Newcastle vs Brentford team news

Newcastle’s primary injury concern appeared to be one of Eddie Howe’s former players, but Ryan Fraser trained as normal this week despite pulling out of Scotland duty with a calf problem. Paul Dummett is the club’s only senior squad absentee the defender is yet to play this season.

For Brentford, David Raya and Josh Dasilva are out until 2022 and thus unavailable. Mathias Jensen tested positive for Covid-19 before joining up with Denmark squad but could be able to play, while Shandon Baptiste and Myles Peart-Harris played in a friendly against Luton during the international break.

Newcastle vs Brentford prediction

It remains to be seen what kind of impact Eddie Howe can have on a squad that had largely appeared to be sleep-walking towards relegation under Steve Bruce, but there is talent in the Newcastle squad. Brentford are a better side than their recent run suggests, though.
