Current Epsom Derby favourite Luxembourg is to put his credentials on the line in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, April 30.

The Camelot colt is available at a general 3/1 for the Epsom Classic but finds himself pushed out in the 2000 Guineas market by Godolphin pair Native Trail and Coroebus.

Luxembourg is being targeted at middle distances but all three wins so far have come at a mile, meaning he can still have a big say in Saturday's showpiece.

Trainer AP O'Brien is looking forwards to also putting fellow Derby entry Point Lonsdale to the test in the one mile showpiece at flat HQ. O'Brien has won the opening Classic of the season no less than 10 times and will be comfortable going into the 2022 edition with his beautifully bred pair.

Native Trail is currently a hot evens favourite for the 2000 Guineas, being an unbeaten colt with a Group 1 Dewhurst win under his belt alongside a victory in the recent Craven Stakes at the elite. Cambridgeshire track

Charlie Appleby stablemate Coroebus has also won over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in last season's Autumn Stakes and he is currently second in the betting behind Native Trail.

Meanwhile, Richard Fahey has a talented outsider in Perfect Power who could take on the big boys, a consistent performer over six and seven furlongs, who steps up to the mile for the first time. Hugo Palmer is eyeing a first Classic for his tie-in with ex-footballer Michael Owen and Dubawi Legend offers that opportunity after a fine second to Native Trail in the Dewhurst in October.

Newmarket trainer Roger Varian won't have to take his Eydon far to race and the Feildon Stakes winner was eye-catching in victory at HQ earlier this month for Prince Faisal and could be an interesting each-way option.

Charlie and Mark Johnston's Royal Patronage is a course and distance winner who beat Godolphin's fancied Coroebus last September in the Royal Lodge Stakes. The Wooton Bassett colt was then whooped by Luxembourg in the Vertem Futurity at Doncaster, finishing last which casts a doubt on the form. 15 runners look set to go to post on Saturday, April 30 for the 2000 Guineas at Newarket. The winner takes not only the first Classic of the season but also a cool first prize of £283,550.
