Newmarket top racing tip: Accidental Agent primed to hit the ground running on season debut
Eve Johnson Houghton has her team in fine form and with regard to Accidental Agent's chance here, it seems significant that the trainer has sent out four winners in recent days with all of them making their seasonal debuts.
With that in mind, it seems highly likely that Accidental Agent will be primed to peak first-time out, especially as he normally performs well when fresh anyway.
After finishing fifth of 15 on his 2020 season debut in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot, he performed well again after a 252-day break in 2021, coming fourth of 12 in a Class 2 handicap at Newbury. On his first outing of last season, following a break of 159 days, he won a Class 2 handicap over today's course and distance when he was ridden by Georgia Dobie. He quickened very smartly to take that race by a clear two lengths and he runs off exactly the same mark here with the same rider in the saddle.
Everything about Accidental Agent's performance pattern says he should be ready to put in a big race under this set of circumstances.
Suggested bet: Accidental Agent to win the 15:00 at Ayr
Of the others, the five-year-old Final Watch is likely to come on for his seasonal debut over this trip last month, when he finished a never-nearer fourth of nine despite missing the break in a race that saw the first three home all race prominently throughout. Next best bet: Final Watch to win the 15:00 at Ayr He was easily the best of the closers and he was the winner of a straight, galloping seven-furlong handicap on good going at Ascot last summer, so he should also improve for this better ground.
