NEWPORT RFC will take on Pontypridd for a place in the final of the Premiership Cup.

The Black and Ambers will lock horns with Ponty on Saturday, March 25 at a neutral venue yet to be confirmed.

The winners will meet either Cardiff or RGC the following month at Principality Stadium, where Newport lifted the trophy last season.

The holders safely negotiated their three-team pool with Swansea and Llanelli to make the last four, beating both West Wales sides with bonus points.

Newport beat Ponty, who emerged from a group containing Aberavon and Bridgend, 33-16 when the sides met in the league in November with the return fixture taking place on April 1 at Sardis Road.

Ty Morris’ men made a slow start to the season after being edged out in their first four games but have since put themselves right back in the mix for the play-offs with three wins on the spin to go with their cup progress.

Seventh-placed Newport travel to fourth-placed Merthyr in the Premiership on Saturday while Ebbw Vale, fresh from losing a cup shootout with RGC, head to Pontypridd.
