Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for a new manager and former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has reportedly emerged as a shock candidate.

The 64-year-old coach is currently the boss of Italian club Lazio. However, amid links to several English clubs, a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.

Sarri certainly has plenty of experience at the highest level, so it will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy makes a concrete move for him at the end of the season.

Indeed, Tottenham are currently in the midst of a crisis. Antonio Conte left the club in late March, only to be replaced by his assistant, Cristian Stellini.

However, Stellini failed to improve things at Spurs. He was sacked by Levy after his team were thrashed 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday.

Now, Ryan Mason has been put in charge until the end of the season. Interestingly, he suggested in a recent interview that he wanted the manager job on a long-term basis.

But, Levy seems keen to appoint another big name ahead of next season, so the chairman has some huge decisions to make in the coming months.

Sarri tipped to make PL return

As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham have been heavily linked with former Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann.

The 35-year-old is believed to be the firm favourite to take up the role, but there could still be a few twists ahead of next season.

With that in mind, according to reports coming out of ItalyTottenham are ‘vigilant’ in their pursuit of Sarri. However, they could allegedly face competition from Everton and, unbelievably, Newcastle.

While Eddie Howe’s job with the Magpies is certainly secure, Everton are currently second-bottom of the Premier League table, with Sean Dyche’s team in serious danger of relegation.

Also, with a trigger-happy majority shareholder like Farhad Moshiri in charge, anything is possible where the Toffees are concerned.

However, Dyche is well-accustomed to the Championship, so it seems unlikely he’d be sacked even if Everton are relegated.

So, if these reports are to be believed, Tottenham would probably be the firm favourites to bring in Sarri.

At Chelsea, the reputed coach helped guide the Blues to Europa League victory. In Italy, he also helped Juventus to clinch a Serie A title in 2020.

Now, Sarri’s current club, Lazio, sit in an impressive second place in the table.

With that in mind, Sarri certainly has the credentials to be a success at Tottenham. Although, it would still be quite a shock to see him appointed if Nagelsmann is an option for Levy.
