Next UFC Fight for the Troops Event Targeted for November 6

LAS VEGAS — The Ultimate Fighting Championship will likely promote its next UFC Fight for the Troops event in November.

UFC president Dana White announced the event during Friday’s question and answer session at the UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas.

UFC Fight for the Troops 3, according to White, is targeted to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The new Fox Sports 1 network launches on Aug. 17 with the UFC as part of its cornerstone programming. Wednesday nights in particular are blocked out for UFC content, so the next UFC Fight for the Troops event is likely to air on Fox Sports 1.

It’s been more than two-and-a-half years since the UFC last held a Fight for the Troops event.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 took place on Jan. 22, 2011, at Fort Hood in Texas. Melvin Guillard scored a TKO stoppage of Evan Dunham in the main event.

The first Fight for the Troops was on Dec. 10, 2008, in Fayetteville, N.C. Josh Koscheck topped the bill that night, knocking out Yoshiyuki Yoshida in the first round.

Although it wasn’t billed as a UFC Fight for the Troops, UFC Fight Night 7 was the first time the promotion held an event on a military base. Diego Sanchez knocked out Joe Riggs in the main event at MCAS Miramar in San Diego on Dec. 13, 2006. The crowd that night consisted almost entirely of United States Marines stationed at the base.

Company officials usually reserve preference for military personnel for UFC Fight for the Troops events tickets. The shows are also a vehicle for the UFC to help raise funds for military related charities, such as the Wounded Warriors Project.

The Wounded Warriors Project is a charity that raises awareness and enlists the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, helps injured service members aid and assist each other, and provides unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
