NFL betting: Trey Lance is already a popular Rookie of the Year bet

Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson may have been selected before him in the 2021 NFL draft, but it’s Trey Lance that is attracting the most betting action for next season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Lance, who went No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers, has already seen a big shift in his odds to win the rookie of the year at BetMGM. Lance’s odds opened at +1600, but those have already been bumped to +1000 only a few days after the conclusion of the draft.

Thus far at BetMGM, Lance has received 35.5% of the bets for Offensive Rookie of the Year, along with 47.7% of the money.

With Jimmy Garoppolo still in the fold in San Francisco, Lance has the fifth-worst odds among the five first-round quarterbacks. Lawrence, who went first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, is the favorite at +225. Just behind Lawrence is Justin Fields, who was selected No. 11 overall by the Chicago Bears. Fields has +350 odds, ahead of Wilson (+550) and Mac Jones (+900). Wilson was chosen No. 2 by the New York Jets while Jones went No. 15 to the New England Patriots.

Aside from Lance, though, the quarterbacks have not attracted much betting action so far. Behind Lance, Kyle Pitts and Najee Harris have received the most bets. Pitts, who became the highest selected tight end of all time when he went No. 4 to the Atlanta Falcons, has +1200 odds. He has received 14.5% of the bets and 23.1% of the money.

Harris was the first running back chosen. He went No. 24 to the Pittsburgh Steelers and currently has +1400 odds to win Rookie of the Year. Harris has received 14.5% of the bets and 10.5% of the money.

Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who went No. 5 to the Cincinnati Bengals, is also listed with +1400 odds. He has received 6.6% of the bets and 4.6% of the money.

Lawrence has received the fifth-most bets (4.8%), but has received only 2.4% of the money. Behind Lance, Jones has received the most money among quarterbacks (5.5%).

What about the Defensive Rookie of the Year?

On the other side of the ball, the betting is a bit more spread out in terms of ticket percentage. But one player has attracted the most money — by a significant margin — for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

That player is Micah Parsons, the linebacker out of Penn State who went 12th overall to the Dallas Cowboys. Parsons is the betting favorite at +500 and has attracted more than half of the money at BetMGM. As of Tuesday morning, Parsons has received 18.9% of the bets and a whopping 51.4% of the cash.

Miami Dolphins defensive end Jaelan Phillips, the No. 18 selection, has received the second-most bets at 14.9%. Behind Parsons and Phillips, Kwity Paye, Patrick Surtain II and Jamin Davis have all received 10.8% of the bets. Among those three, Davis — a linebacker who went No. 19 to the Washington Football Team — has received the most money at 16.5%. That handle percentage even ranks above Phillips, who is at 9.4%.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah lasted until the second round to the Cleveland Browns, but he is tied with Paye for the second-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. They are both listed at +800. Phillips and Surtain are next at +1000 and +1100, respectively.
