Derek Carr has a new backup.
The Raiders on Monday signed former Bills quarterback and unrestricted free agent EJ Manuel, the team announced.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed but it served as a belated birthday present forManuel, who turned 27 Sunday.
Selected by Buffalo with the No. 16 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, heset franchise rookie records for most passing touchdowns (11) and completions (180) in a season. However, his production declined after his inauguralseason when he was benched infavor of veteran Kyle Orton. Manuel then spent the following two seasons serving as Tyrod Taylor's backup.
With a new slate in Oakland, Manuel will have the opportunity to compete with second-year QBConnor Cookfor the No. 2 job behind Carr.
Manuel appeared in 29 games with 17 starts over his four-year career in Buffalo,logging3,502 yards for 19 touchdowns with 15 interceptions while adding four scores on the ground.
