Dec 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Eight days after coach Jeff Fisher's contract extension became public, the Los Angeles Rams decided to fire him on Monday. Fisher, in his fifth season with the Rams and 22nd overall as an NFL head coach, was let go one day after a 42-14 drubbing at home by the Atlanta Falcons. - - Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was diagnosed with an ACL and MCL sprains in his left knee, coach Adam Gase confirmed Monday in announcing the better-than-expected news. Tannehill suffered the knee injury with 1:46 left in the third quarter of Sunday's 26-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals and early indications were a torn ACL. Gase said surgery is not required but is uncertain whether Tannehill can return this season. - - The U.S. Supreme Court let stand the NFL's $1 billion concussion deal, rejecting challenges to the plan to settle thousands of lawsuits filed by former players. The settlement was reached by the NFL and covers more than 20,000 retired players for financial payouts based on brain injuries linked to concussions suffered during their playing careers. The agreement will cover retirees for the next 65 years. - - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team never considered inserting Tony Romo into Sunday night's loss for struggling quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott had the worst game of his rookie season during the 10-7 loss to the New York Giants that snapped the Cowboys' 11-game winning streak. - - Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware is one of eight finalists for the NFL's Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. The finalists, announced Monday by the NFL, feature four players from each conference. Linebacker Brian Cushing (Houston Texans), running back Frank Gore (Indianapolis Colts), guard/tackle Marshal Yanda (Baltimore Ravens) and Ware are from the AFC, and tight end Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers), linebacker Julius Peppers (Green Bay Packers), running back Darren Sproles (Philadelphia Eagles) and tackle Joe Staley (San Francisco 49ers) represent the NFC. - - The Minnesota Vikings put defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd on injured reserve and signed defensive tackle Toby Johnson to the active roster from the practice squad. Floyd, a first-round draft pick (23rd overall) in 2013, played one game in 2016 before sustaining a right knee injury. He underwent knee surgery Sept. 22, and the Vikings had held out hope he would return. The 25-year-old has 57 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble in four seasons with Minnesota. - - The Indianapolis Colts signed safety Duke Williams and elevated wide receiver Devin Street to the 53-man roster.
