NFL-National Football League roundup

Dec 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay didn't mince words on Wednesday when discussing the NFL's future in both San Diego and Oakland. The Chargers and Raiders have been in talks with relocating their franchises, much to the dismay of their current cities. "At this point there is really no reason for optimism in either market," Irsay told reporters at the Winter League Meeting in Irving, Texas. "I think everything has been done that can be done ... right now there isn't any communication going on." - - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck sat out practice with a sore shoulder and elbow. Luck was limited each day in practice last week before playing in every available snap of Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Houston Texans. - - The Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver Michael Floyd, two days after he was arrested for driving under the influence and failing to obey a police officer. The fifth-year pro was jailed on two counts of DUI, one count of obstructing a roadway and one count of failure to obey a police officer. - - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is officially back at practice after he was designated for return from injured reserve. Peterson participated in walkthroughs Wednesday morning, starting the 21-day window for the team to activate him from IR. - - The San Diego Chargers placed their 18th player on injured reserve this year on Wednesday as veteran cornerback Brandon Flowers was lost for the season. Flowers has been sidelined since Nov. 13 after sustaining a concussion against the Miami Dolphins. - - Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell were named Offensive Player of the Week in their respective conferences, the NFL announced Wednesday. Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for making two sacks and five tackles in the 23-10 win over the winless Cleveland Browns. Atlanta Falcons linebacker Vic Beasley earned the NFC defensive award after sacking Jared Goff three times, forcing a fumble and returning it for a score in the 42-14 rout of the Los Angeles Rams.
