Controversial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick could be paving a way back into professional football after completing a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders. It wasn't an ordinary run around the gym either, as the workout was overseen by head coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL or worked out for any team since the conclusion of the 2016 season. The social justice advocate became something of a national pariah that year after kneeling during the American national anthem to protest against police brutality. Many believed at the time it was the end of this career in the NFL and, until now that very much appeared to be the case. However, his appearance in Las Vegas has been accompanied by a plethora of rumours that the team is keen to sign him on for 2022.
Colin Kaepernick, who last played football in 2016, the same year he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, is scheduled to work out this week for the Las Vegas Raiders, league sources told ESPN.

When asked what he was hoping to get out of his workout with the Raiders, Kaepernick answered simply: "A shot." "Just a chance, an opportunity. You know, a lot of what we've heard is, 'Oh you haven't played in five years, can you still play?' Well, I had to come out, it's part of the reason we've been doing all of the workouts publicly, releasing them publicly. "I'm grateful that this is an opportunity that can lead to a next step and hopefully crack that door open so I can run through it." While the workout is a big deal, especially for Kaepernick, it is by no means a guarantee the Raiders will go on to sign him. And even if they do, he will be way down the pecking order in terms of the starting job with Derek Carr having recently signed a big three-year extension, as well as the signing of Nick Mullins.
