NHL Draft Lottery 2017: Results, draft order and big winners

The New Jersey Devils won the 2017 NHL Draft lottery, and here's what else you need to know about the results.

There’s no Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews awaiting the winner of the 2017 NHL Draft lottery, but there is game-changing talent on which teams would love to get first dibs.

The New Jersey Devils, who had just the fifth-best odds of landing the No. 1 pick, won the lottery, which determines the order for the first 15 picks in the 2017 NHL Draft. The lottery was held Saturday, April 29, in Toronto; the draft will be held June 23-24 in Chicago.

In early mock drafts, Nolan Patrick is considered to be the top pick, but he's far from the consensus top prospect that McDavid and Matthews were.

Who are the top prospects in the 2017 NHL Draft?

Nolan Patrick is considered by many to be the biggest prize in this year's NHL draft, but he's no lock for the No. 1 pick.

The 2017 NHL Draft crop is loaded at the top with centers. Nico Hischier, a center, is considered the next-best player after Patrick. Casey Mittelstadt, Gabriel Vilardi and Michael Rasmussen are other centers considered top prospects and first-round picks.

When is the 2017 NHL Draft?

The first round of the seven-round 2017 NHL Draft will take place Friday, June 23, in Chicago. Rounds 2-7 will be held Saturday, June 24.
