Flyers sign Sean Couturier to eight-year contract extension

The Philadelphia Flyers and forward Sean Couturier agreed to an eight-year extension on Thursday, worth an average annual value of $7.75 million.

The contract will take effect for the 2022-23 season and run through the 2029-30 campaign.

"As one of the premier two-way centres in the NHL, Sean has the rare talent to shut down opposing team's top players while also contributing at a high offensive level," Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher wrote in a release.

"Throughout his 10-year career with the Flyers, he has proven to be the ultimate teammate. He carries an enormous presence inside our dressing room due to his preparation, determination and drive to win."

Couturier, 28, recorded 18 goals and 23 assists in 45 games with the Flyers last season. Philly selected the former Drummondville Voltigeur No. 8 overall in 2011, and Couturier has since posted 443 points in 692 career games with the Flyers while developing into one of the NHL's most effective two-way players — finally earning his first Selke Trophy in 2020.
