Nov 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights from National Hockey League games on Saturday: Canadiens 5, Red Wings 0 The Montreal Canadiens pulled within one win of the NHL record for consecutive home wins to start a season with a 5-0 victory against the Detroit Red Wings. The win was their 10th at home this season. The 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks won their first 11 games at home. Montreal can tie the record when they host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The Canadiens were backed by a 25-save shutout by goaltender Carey Price, his second of the season and 38th career. Andrew Shaw collected a goal and two assists. Phillip Danault, Paul Byron, captain Max Pacioretty and defenseman Shea Weber all scored a goal. Hurricanes 5, Capitals 1 Teuvo Teravainen had a goal and three assists for a career-high four points, Jordan Staal added a goal and three assists and Sebastian Aho scored the first two goals of his career as the Carolina Hurricanes dominated the Washington Capitals. Aho had an empty-netter to give the Hurricanes a season-high goal total after scoring just nine in their previous five games. Sharks 3, Lightning 1 The San Jose Sharks continue to play some of their best hockey on the road and two early goals helped them to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sharks goalie Martin Jones made 25 saves and took a shutout into the third period as San Jose picked up their fifth road win of the season. Patrick Marleau, Tommy Wingels and defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored goals for the Sharks. Penguins 4, Maple Leafs 1 Sidney Crosby kept up his early-season scoring surge with a goal and an assist to support Matt Murray's strong goaltending as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bryan Rust also had a goal and an assist, Chris Kunitz scored with 18 seconds left in the second period and Evgeni Malkin added a power-play goal as the Penguins improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine against the Maple Leafs. Murray turned aside 35 shots. Flyers 3, Wild 2 Left wing Brayden Schenn scored the game-winning goal 8:43 into the third period and goaltender Steve Mason stopped 19 of 20 shots to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. Flyers' defensemen Brandon Manning and Michael Del Zotto also scored, while Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund scored for the Wild. Devils 4, Sabres 2 Nick Lappin and Kyle Palmieri scored in a span of five minutes and six seconds midway through the second period to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Kyle Quincey and John Moore also scored for New Jersey. Panthers 3, NY Islanders 2 (OT) Jonathan Marchessault scored with 13.6 seconds left in regulation and Denis Malgin got the game-winner with 45.8 seconds left in overtime as the Florida Panthers defeated the New York Islanders. Florida pulled goalie Roberto Luongo in the final minute to get an extra attacker, and the plan worked as Marchessault got his eighth goal of the season, with an assist from Aleksander Barkov. Malgin, a 19-year-old rookie, then scored in the final minute of overtime. Blue Jackets 8, Blues 4 Cam Atkinson recorded a career-high four assists and Sam Gagner scored twice to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to an 8-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Nick Foligno added a goal and two assists for Columbus. Robby Fabbri responded with two goals for St. Louis. Predators 5, Ducks 0 James Neal scored twice, giving him five in the last four games, and Pekka Rinne stopped 27 shots for his 41st career shutout as Nashville routed Anaheim. The Predators blew the game open with three goals late in the second period, including one while it was killing the Ducks' fifth power play. It was the first shutout of the season for Rinne, who has allowed seven goals in the last six games. Bruins 2, Coyotes 1 Boston's Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak scored second-period goals and the Bruins all but shut down Arizona's offense in a dominant performance. Tuukka Rask made 30 saves for Boston to improve to 9-1. Louis Domingue made 27 saves for Arizona. NY Rangers 4, Flames 1 Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist produced a 35-save performance as the New York Rangers beat the Calgary Flames. Rangers' rookie left winger Pavel Buchnevich ran his goal-scoring streak to four games, while right winger Michael Grabner, center Derek Stepan and left winger Jimmy Vesey also scored for the Rangers. Left winger Micheal Ferland scored Calgary's goal in the third period.
