Longtime NHL star Jaromir Jagr was involved in a high-speed collision with a streetcar in Czechia on Wednesday.

The 50-year-old, who plays for and owns the Kladno Knights in the Czech League, was shaken up by the collision but came away mostly unscathed.

Jagr posted details surrounding the accident on his Instagram account. He explained how he was driving his Kia EV6 electric car in the central district of Prague when he collided with the tramway.

He said he is relieved that no one on board was injured in the wreck and also took responsibility for the accident.

“Dear fans, but everyone else. I would just like to tell you briefly what happened today when I was involved in the accident. It was my fault. On Plzeňská, I tried to cross from one direction to another. I checked the other side and drove into it at the right time," Jagr wrote in Czech on Instagram on Monday, via Google Translate.

"But there was a lot of traffic and I didn’t have time to react to the tram, which was going at high speed in the same direction as me. I noticed her half a meter in front of me, at the last minute. I thought it was my end. I have always believed that force majeure has a hand over me, and today I have seen it again.

"Thank God! And it also surprised me and actually saved my KIA, from which, despite what it looked like, I climbed out without injury. But most importantly, nothing happened to the passengers on the tram. I would like to end this sad event. And I thank everyone for their understanding and also for their help to those who intervened on the spot.”

Police on site tested Jagr’s breath and results were negative. An investigation on the circumstances of the accident is underway.

The collision occurred just a day prior to Jagr announcing that he would return with the Kladno Knights in 2022-2023. It will be his 35th season in professional hockey.

“I know some of you won’t believe me, but I’m already looking forward to next season,” he mentioned in the announcement.

A surefire Hockey Hall of Famer whenever he chooses to hang up the skates, Jagr recorded 1,921 points in 1,733 games in an impressive 24-year NHL career.
