Feb 3 (The Sports Xchange) - The Washington Capitals recalled forward Jakub Vrana from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League on Friday. Vrana, 20, recorded one goal and two assists in 12 games with the Capitals this season. The Prague, Czech Republic, native made his NHL debut on Dec. 1 against the New York Islanders and scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 9 at Buffalo. The 6-foot, 195-pound Vrana owns 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in 30 games with Hershey this season and ranks tied for second on the team in goals. He was drafted by the Capitals in the first round (13th overall) of the 2014 NHL draft. - - - The Florida Panthers assigned forward Paul Thompson to the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL. Thompson, 28, has three assists in 21 games with Florida this season. - - - The New York Rangers assigned goaltender Magnus Hellberg to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. Hellberg, 25, appeared in one game with the Rangers this season, stopping all four shots he faced while making his season debut against the Dallas Stars on Jan. 17. (Editing by Andrew Both)
