June 24 (The Sports Xchange) - The Dallas Stars signed defenseman Jordie Benn to a three-year contract Friday. Terms were not disclosed but the deal will average a reported $1.1 million per season. Benn, 28, finished the 2015-16 season with 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 64 regular-season games. He finished third on the team with 94 blocked shots. He played one game during the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, registering four penalty minutes and two blocked shots. - - The Minnesota Wild bought out the final year of forward Thomas Vanek's contract, the team announced. "In order to give our team more salary cap flexibility we needed to make this difficult decision," said general manager Chuck Fletcher. "We thank Thomas for his time with the Minnesota Wild and wish him the best going forward." Vanek, 32, becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team except Minnesota. He had 93 points (39 goals, 54 assists) in 154 regular season games with the Wild during the 2015-16 regular season and added four assists in 10 playoff contests. - - The Colorado Avalanche re-signed forward Andreas Martinsen to a one-year contract. Martinsen, 26, tallied 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 55 games for the Avalanche during his first NHL season in 2015-16. He finished fourth on the team and fifth among NHL rookies with 155 hits. - - Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will not require surgery on his injured left elbow. The 29-year-old Malkin, who missed 25 regular-season games this season with various injuries, injured his elbow March 11 after taking a hit against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was expected to miss six to eight weeks, but he came back just over a month later in the first round of the playoffs against the New York Rangers. Malkin will undergo rehabilitation this summer and is not expected to miss any time, according to the team. - - The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed forwards J.T. Brown and Cedric Paquette to two-year, one-way NHL contracts. The team also re-signed defenseman Luke Witkowski to a one-year, two-way contract. (Editing by Steve Keating.)
