June 14 (The Sports Xchange) - The NHL is preparing to announce it has chosen Las Vegas to join the league as an expansion team, according to published reports. Las Vegas and Quebec City were both under expansion but the league's executive committee reportedly favored the Las Vegas bid. The league has a Board of Governors meeting on June 22 in Las Vegas, when an official announcement on expansion is expected. - - Randy Carlyle, who guided the Anaheim Ducks to their lone Stanley Cup title in 2007, was hired for his second coaching stint with the franchise, the team announced. Carlyle, 60, is the all-time winningest coach in franchise history with a 273-182-61 record in six-plus seasons. His 36 postseason victories are also a club mark. - - The Chicago Blackhawks took a step toward solidifying their future in net by agreeing to a one-year contract with goaltender Mac Carruth.
