Nov 22 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Jose Sharks and Brent Burns agreed on an eight-year contract extension on Tuesday that will prevent the standout defenseman from becoming a free agent following the season. The deal is reportedly worth approximately $8 million per season, according to ESPN. Burns, 31, is making $5.76 million this season as he completes a five-year, $28.8 million deal he signed in the summer of 2011. - - Detroit Red Wings defenseman Alexey Marchenko will be sidelined "weeks" with an upper-body injury, coach Jeff Blashill told the Detroit News. Marchenko sustained the injury during Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames. - - The Minnesota Wild assigned forward Christoph Bertschy to Iowa of the American Hockey League. In 116 career NHL games, Vey has 14 goals and 25 assists. - - The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned forward Erik Condra to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. Condra, 30, was recalled before the Lightning's 3-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Monday but did not play. He has three goals and six assists in 13 games with Syracuse this season.
