NHL Three Stars: Blackhawks down Flyers; Habs blank Penguins

No. 1 Star: Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

The 2015-16 Hart Trophy winner had his first big point-producing game of the new season with one goal and three assists in a 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. With the score tied 4-4, Kane assisted on Chicago’s last three goals to help his team to the victory. The Blackhawks are now 2-2-0 on the season.

No. 2 Star: Al Montoya, Montreal Canadiens

Montreal’s backup goaltender kept the Pittsburgh Penguins off the scoresheet with a 36-save performance in a 4-0 win. Carey Price has been out with an illness so Montoya has played all Montreal’s games. He has allowed just four goals in that stretch and gone 2-0-1.

No. 3 Star: Artem Anisimov, Chicago Blackhawks

Anisimov scored the game-winner in his team’s victory over the Flyers. He also scored another goal and notched two assists. The center came into the game with just one assist in his prior three contests. His line with Kane and Artemi Panarin had 11 points total.

Honorable Mention: Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored his first goal of the season and added an assist in his team’s 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Teammate T.J. Oshie scored two goals … Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer stopped 18 of 18 shots on goal to pick up a shutout … New Jersey Devils forward Taylor Hall scored his first goal with his new team and added another in a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks … Devils forwards Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac each picked up assists in their win over the Ducks … Anaheim defenseman Sami Vatanen scored his team’s only goal … Joe Pavelski’s goal at the 17:49 mark of the third period gave the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win at the New York Islanders … San Jose forward Joe Thornton notched two assists and linemate Tomas Hertl scored a goal … Melker Karlsson also scored for the Sharks … Islanders forward Anders Lee scored his first goal of the season … Canadiens forward David Desharnais scored two goals … Habs forward Alexander Radulov scored his first NHL regular season goal since 2012 … Montreal captain Max Pacioretty scored a goal and added an assist … Montreal defenseman Jeff Petry notched two assists and was a plus-3 … Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos blasted the game-tying goal with 5.5 seconds left in regulation in his team’s 4-3 shootout win over the Florida Panthers … Brayden Point scored the shootout winner for the Lightning.
