NHL Three Stars: Habs stay unbeaten in regulation; Ducks thump Preds

No. 1 Star: Cam Talbot, Edmonton Oilers

The Washington Capitals send 35 shots at Talbot and only one Alex Ovechkin shot got past the netminder. Both Talbot and the Oilers are now 6-1-0 on the season. During the game, Talbot unleashed his inner-enforcer on T.J. Oshie, much to Caps fans displeasure. Watch the goalie get a punch in before the linesman jumps on Oshie to shield his face.

No. 2 Star: Jakob Silfverberg, Anaheim Ducks

To say it was an off night for the Nashville Predators is an understatement. The Ducks thoroughly beat the Preds, 6-1. Silfverberg scored one of three power play goals and a one of two shorthanded goals in the win.

No. 3 Star: Shea Weber, Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens and New York Islanders traded goal for goal the entire game until the final three minutes. On the power play, Weber, who already had an assist on the night, unleashed his cannon from the blueline for a power play goal. Montreal has yet to lose in regulation.

Honorable Mention: Al Montoya is proving to be a steady backup to Carey Price. He earned his third win of the season, allowing two goals on 28 shots. Brendan Gallagher was credited with seven shots on goal, four attempts blocked, and three missed shots versus the Isles … Austin Czarnik scored his first NHL goal in the Boston Bruins 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers. Brandon Pirri had two goals for the Rangers. J.T. Miller, Derek Stepan, Jimmy Vesey and Rick Nash all picked up two points against Boston … Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assisted on both Benoit Pouliot goals in the Oilers 4-1 win over Washington. Connor McDavid assisted on Patrick Maroon and Milan Lucic’s goals, and now leads the NHL with 11 points … Sami Vatanen and Cam Fowler picked up two assists each against Nashville. Anaheim’s power play was 3-of-4 and the penalty kill scored two short handed goals.

Did You Know? With his power-play goal, Corey Perry (670) surpassed Paul Kariya for third on the club’s all-time points list (via Anaheim Ducks).

Dishonorable Mention: David Pastrnak might get suspended for this hit on Dan Girardi. Josh Jooris suffered a separated shoulder after playing three minutes in the game against Boston; he’s out indefinitely. Tough first game for Boston goaltender Zane McIntyre; gave up five goals on 31 shots … The Ducks were without Ryan Getzlaf due to an upper-body injury suffered in Tuesday’s game against San Jose. Pekka Rinne was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots. Marek Manzanec let in two more on nine shots. Ryan Johansen received a mysterious unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
