NHL Three Stars: Hossa's OT winner; Cammalleri's hatty
No. 1 Star: Scott Darling, Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago and the Dallas Stars completed the second half of a home-and-home series. With Corey Crawford getting the start last night, Darling took the net tonight. He made a miraculous toe save in overtime to keep the team in it and eventually get the win.
No. 2 Star: Michael Cammalleri, New Jersey Devils
Cammalleri picked up a hat trick for the Devils in their 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Beau Bennett assisted on two of Cammalleri’s three goals.
No. 3 Star: Ryan Kesler, Anaheim Ducks
The forward scored two power play goals as the Ducks went on to beat the Calgary Flames, 4-1. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry earned three points each and assisted on both Kesler goals.
Honorable Mention: Kevin Shattenkirk assisted on three of the five goals scored by the St. Louis Blues in their 5-1 drubbing of the Colorado Avalanche. Five different Blues players scored for the team; Robby Fabbri and Jori Lehtera picked up their first goals of the season … Dallas rookie Gemel Smith scored the first and second goals of his NHL career against Chicago. The second of which came with 1:20 left in the third to tie the game. In overtime, who else but Marian Hossa with the game winner for his 1,100th NHL point.
… Jonas Gustavsson earned his first win of the season in as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1. Connor McDavid assisted on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins game-winning power play goal for his 14th point of the season … Keith Kincade made 33 saves to earn his first win of the season. Andrej Nestrasil was credited with a game-high 8 shots on goal and scored the ‘Canes lone goal in the game … The New York Rangers earned their fifth straight win by defeating the Winnipeg Jets, 5-2. Five different Rangers forwards scored each of the goals. Patrik Laine scored his 8th goal of the season in the loss … Jonathan Bernier earned his first win as a Duck with 25 saves. Andrew Cogliano wins for ‘best effort resulting in a goal’ after snagging his own rebound and chopping it into the net while falling.
Did You Know? With their win in Anaheim tonight against the Calgary Flames, the Ducks have set a new NHL record with 25 straight home wins against one team. The last time Calgary won in Anaheim was 2004.
Dishonorable Mention: Joel Edmundson was injured after 1:47 TOI and did not return. Semyon Varlamov was pulled after two periods against the Blues; he allowed 5 goals on 20 shots … Justin Faulk left the game in the middle of the third period and did not return due to injury … Tyler Motte did not return to the game after crashing into the boards awkwardly in the second period … Michael Hutchinson replaced Connor Hellebuyck in net after Hellebuyck allowed 4 goals on 16 shots.
