NI newcomer Justin Devenny lays out confident stall after scoring first Crystal Palace goal
Northern Ireland newcomer Justin Devenny insists he's only getting started after scoring his first goal for Crystal Palace. The 21-year-old was on target in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.
Devenny scored just before the break to put his side 2-1 up, but they were pegged back by Ross Barkley's 77th-minute equaliser at Villa Park.
It has been a whirlwind fortnight for the young midfielder, who made his Palace debut against Fulham before the international break. He then linked up with Northern Ireland and made his international bow against Luxembourg.

He said: "I only found out on the morning of the (Villa) game that I was going to be playing. We did activation and stuff and the manager pulled me and told me that I was starting.
"From then I was confident and ready to go. I don’t want just to be getting one or two appearances. I want to be a name in that team and show everyone what I can do, and hopefully, I’ll get that chance.
“It’s been a very, very good week. That’s just the beginning for me with my debut for Northern Ireland as well. I just want to keep doing that.
“I feel like that’s the best opportunity I’ve got to go and kickstart my career. I see that as an opportunity and I feel at the end of the day that it’s down to me to go and show everyone I’m good enough.
“I’ve got to be 100 per cent confident no matter who I’m playing against. There are big names there [at Aston Villa], but I just focus on my game, and hopefully, I can show my quality against the likes of those players.
“I trust in myself and believe in my own ability to help that. My main qualities? I’d like to say my passing range, creating opportunities for the team, getting on the ball and killer passes.

“I’d like to do all parts of the game but creating chances and getting goals that’s when it counts.”
Devenny says his maiden goal "happened in slow motion" but it was a moment he was never going to squander.
Reflecting on his goal at Villa Park, Devenny added: "It was a fast break for the goal and I was sprinting up the park. I knew there was always going to be a chance. I touched it round the defender and it was a great moment. That's one I'll look back on for the rest of my life.
“I knew there was obviously going to be a chance when it was [played in] for me and JP [Mateta]. I just knocked it around the defender.
“Do you know what? It just happened in slow motion. I just saw it roll across and then I was like: ‘This is my moment’. I've taken it."
