Nick Diaz Turns Himself In to Serve DUI Sentence

Former UFC welterweight title contender Nick Diaz turned himself in to the San Joaquin County Jail in California on Thursday morning to serve one day in custody for a DUI sentence.

The 32-year-old was arrested for DUI in September 2013 and again in November 2014. In a plea deal, Diaz was sentenced to two days in jail, but was credited for one day served from the initial arrest.

Diaz was originally charged with multiple infractions, which included DUI, DUI with an alcohol or drug level above .08, unsafe speed for prevailing conditions, failure to appear, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest. In his plea deal, he plead no contest to DUI with an alcohol or drug level above .08, while dismissing the other charges.

Along with the two-day jail sentence, Diaz was also given three years of informal probation and must complete a DUI educational course.

Informal probation means that Diaz won’t have to check in with a probation officer. He just needs to stay out of trouble for the duration of his probation and meet all other terms of his sentencing.

He was scheduled to be released from custody later in the day on Thursday.

UPDATE: As quickly as news spread of Diaz's booking, he was released. By 12:00 p.m. PT, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Diaz had been released.
