'No excuses' - Real Madrid star shares brutal verdict after Liverpool Champions League defeat
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has lamented his side's performance against Liverpool and admitted there are "no excuses" for Wednesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat at Anfield. Los Blancos were beaten on Merseyside courtesy of second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.
Although Real were not at their best, they still had opportunities to score and should have found the back of the net at 1-0 when Kylian Mbappe stepped up from the penalty spot. However, the French sensation was denied thanks to a fine save from Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Reds would have been thinking the same thing after Mohamed Salah also missed from 12 yards, but that didn't matter to the overall result as Arne Slot's side moved back to the top of the Champions League table with five wins from their first five matches, conceding just once in the process.

As for Real, they sit down in 24th with just six points from a possible 15 and their recent Champions League form - losing three of their last four - is very concerning. And former Chelsea stopper Courtois has issued a rallying cry to his side and believes they must learn and correct the mistakes moving forward.
In an Instagram post, Courtois, who boasts 15.7million followers, wrote: "Learn, correct and move on. No excuses, we are real madrid," alongside four images of him playing during the match.
Meanwhile, Real midfielder Jude Bellingham praised Liverpool's performance and said that it was no disgrace losing against the 'best performing team in Europe right now'.
England international Bellingham told TNT Sports: "They were more up for it than us to be honest. It's a bad result against the best-performing team in Europe. It's no disgrace to come here and lose but we are disappointed in the way how we performed.
"From the first minute, they took control of the game. We never really maximised the spells we had in possession. When we got the ball back we tried to force a counter-attack a few too many times.
"We turned it over so much that they managed to keep control. Defensively they kept us in a place where we couldn't really harm them as much."
