What a night it was for Noni Madueke. The 22-year-old made his first senior start for England on Thursday and helped the Three Lions to a 3-0 comfortable win against Greece.

The Chelsea man was sensational on the right wing and caused all sorts of problems for Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas. It took just seven minutes for the former PSV star to make his mark on the game as he set up Ollie Watkins for England's opener.

Getting the ball on the right hand side, Madueke drove to the byline and pulled the ball back to the Aston Villa man, who simply couldn't miss. In fact, Madueke created more chances than any other player against Greece (three), according to Squawka.

It just proves Lee Carsley's decision to start Madueke was the correct one, with Madueke's performance perhaps also sending a message to Enzo Maresca. The Italian has started Madueke in all but one of Chelsea's 11 Premier League games this season, with the winger scoring four goals in that period.

With Pedro Neto impressing in recent weeks and scoring the equaliser against Arsenal in Chelsea's last match before the international break, it's very possible that Madueke finds himself out of the team at points over the busy November and December period. Maresca is clearly a fan of Madueke, though, and has previously highlighted his workrate on and off the ball as one of his many attributes.

"You see how Noni in this moment is pressing. He’s pressing forward, he’s running back and he’s doing very good with us and not only because he’s scoring goals," Maresca said last month.

"It’s something we need from all the rest, players like Joao [Felix], Christo [Nkunku], Misha [Mudryk], Jadon [Sancho], these kind of players. Today for a forward it is not enough to be good on the ball. You have to be good on the ball and off the ball."

Madueke, who moved to Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for around £30million in January 2023, wants to continue scoring and assisting, whether that be in a Chelsea or England shirt. Speaking after the Blues' 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in October, a game which he scored in, Madueke said: "I’m pleased to score and it’s always nice to get a goal. I’ve missed a few chances in recent games so it was good to get back on the scoresheet.

"We didn’t win the game though, which is the main thing, so I’m left a little disappointed overall. But of course, it’s nice to score and hopefully I can keep adding to my tally this season."

Madueke has the chance to do just that when England play Republic of Ireland on Sunday. He will then return to Cobham hoping to add to his goal tally once again when Chelsea face Leicester next weekend.
