North Carolina installed as short favorite over Gonzaga in NCAA Tournament title game

Jackson helped lead North Carolina to two straight NCAA championship games.

North Carolina opened as a 1.5- to 2-point favorite over Gonzaga at various Las Vegas sports books Saturday night for Monday night’s college basketball national championship game. By Sunday morning, most betting shops are dealing UNC -1.5 as the point spread.

If the betting line holds, it will mark the first time all season Gonzaga is an underdog. While the Zags play in the West Coast Conference, they have fared well against toughout-of-conferencecompetition, for example covering the spread as 4.5-point favorites against Arizona on a neutral court in December,

North Carolina is 18-16-3 against the spread this season and 2-2-1 ATS during the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels failed to cover as 4-point favorites in their 77-76 win over Oregon in Saturday night’s second semifinal.

Gonzaga is a bankroll-building 23-10-2 ATS this season, but again, the Bulldogs have amassed that record as the favorites in every game. They are 1-3-1 ATS during the Tournament, failing to cash tickets as 6.5-point chalk in their 77-73 win over South Carolina on Saturday.

The total for Monday night’s championship game sits between 153.5 and 154.5 as of Sunday morning.

UNC’s over/under record this season is 15-21-1 O/U, while Gonzaga is 17-18 O/U.
