Dion Charles and Randell Williams had Bolton in total control in the first half and it could have been more for the hosts, but Town dug in and might have pinched a point with some late pressure after Sam Hoskins headed home his sixth of the season to halve the deficit midway through the second period. Here are our player ratings...

Tipped Williams' shot onto the post but unlucky to see the rebound fall straight to Charles as Town's defenders were caught on their heels. Smothered smartly from Adeboyejo and made a couple of other decent stops... 7 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Williams got the wrong side of him and he couldn't get out quick enough to close down the shot as Bolton doubled their lead. Unable to make the most of a couple of promising attacking situations... 5.5 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Town's centre-backs were left badly exposed in a tough first half as Bolton players regularly came pouring forward. He did his best to limit the damage but he could only do so much... 6 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Bolton would have scored more if not for his interventions at the back. Made a goal-saving block from Morley and there were one or two other well-timed interceptions. Clipped in a lovely cross for Hoskins to head home... 7 (Photo: Pete Norton)

He's been largely excellent this season but here he was substituted for the first time and that reflected one of his more difficult afternoons in a Cobblers shirt. Struggled to contain Bolton and made no headway down the left... 5 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Not how he would have wanted his 200th game to go. Covered a lot of ground in the middle but that was more out of necessity than anything else as Bolton ripped through Town's midfield throughout the first half. Improved considerably from about 35 minutes on though and was one of the better performers... 7 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Swamped by Bolton players for most of the first half but eventually he was able to get his foot on the ball and give Cobblers a toehold, albeit not enough to apply any concerted pressure until the last few minutes... 6 (Photo: Pete Norton)

The press malfunctioned in the first half which allowed Bolton to play through and around Cobblers and as a consequence he couldn't get in the game. Saw a bit more of the ball second half but not enough... 5.5 (Photo: Pete Norton)

The most lively attacking player for Cobblers by far. He nicked the ball back in the press on multiple occasions, twice going close, before getting his goal. Took it well too, guiding a precise header into the bottom corner for his sixth of the season... 7 CHRON STAR MAN (Photo: Pete Norton)

One or two promising bursts in the first few minutes but it turned into a struggle and he was sacrificed at half-time as Brady changed shape. Was maybe feeling the effects of playing two 90s for Scotland Under-21s... 5.5 (Photo: Pete Norton)

Toiled away fruitlessly for 70 odd minutes. He was too isolated at times but he struggled to hold the ball up and got no change out of Bolton's defence... 5 (Photo: Pete Norton)

On for his debut at half-time as Brady went to three at the back and Cobblers were definitely more secure as a result... 6.5 (Photo: Pete Norton)
