Norwich vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal cruised to a 5-0 win at bottom side Norwich City on Sunday, with Bukayo Saka’s double helping them to secure the victory as they consolidated fourth place in the Premier League.

The win takes Arsenal to 35 points from 19 games after their fourth straight league victory, just over two years since manager Mikel Artetaâs first match in charge of the Gunners.

The visitors took the lead after six minutes through Saka, who stroked the ball past Angus Gunn following a neat passing move that led to Martin Odegaard laying the ball into the forward’s path.

Tierney scored the second goal on the break just before halftime with Odegaard again providing the killer pass for the Scotland left back, who struck a low shot into the net.

England forward Saka grabbed Arsenal’s third in the 67th minute with another low strike before Lacazette was fouled in the box and got up to stroke home the spot kick in the 84th.

Substitute Emile Smith Rowe wrapped up the win with a simple tap-in during added time to complete the rout at Carrow Road.

Key Points

  • GOAL! Smith Rowe off bench to complete rout

Final thoughts from Simon Collings at Carrow Road...

FT: Norwich 0-5 Arsenal

16:53 , Malik Ouzia

Away wins don’t come much easier.

GOAL! Norwich 0-5 Arsenal | Emile Smith Rowe 90+1’

16:49 , Malik Ouzia

He’s done it again!

Nicolas Pepe’s cross deflects into the path of Smith Rowe, who can’t miss. VAR has a long old look but the verdict is he’s just onside.

GOAL! Norwich 0-4 Arsenal | Alexandre Lacazette 84’

16:42 , Malik Ouzia

Cool as you like.

Arsenal have had a few penalty woes of late but Lacazette is confident and strokes into the corner.

16:41 , Malik Ouzia

83 mins: Penalty to Arsenal!

Instant impact from Smith Rowe as his reverse pass finds Lacazette and Kabak brings him down from behind.

16:40 , Malik Ouzia

82 mins: And another change for Arsenal as Smith Rowe replaces Martinelli. Time for another goalscoring cameo from the Englishman?

16:36 , Malik Ouzia

78 mins: There’ll be no hat-trick for Bukayo Saka - Nicolas Pepe is on for the remainder.

16:33 , Malik Ouzia

74 mins: Almost a gift for the home side. Ben White gifts the ball away to Pukki and Holding does well in the end to hold him up and allow the Gunners time to get back and clear.

In the meantime, Mohamed Elneny is on in place of Thomas Partey.

GOAL! Norwich 0-3 Arsenal | Bukayo Saka 67'

16:25 , Malik Ouzia

That’ll clinch it!

He’s like Arjen Robben, isn’t he? Saka is always coming back on that left foot but there’s just nothing you can do. It’s an even better finish than the first goal as he whips into the far corner from the edge of the box to surely wrap this up with more twenty minutes to go.

Arsenal thought they had the third goal to kill the game there, but the offside flag denied them. They’ve not been as dominant this half and Norwich have a glimmer of hope with 30 minutes to go.

GOAL DISALLOWED!

16:20 , Malik Ouzia

Arsenal think they’ve got a third - brilliantly made by Ben White, who pings out to Martinelli and the Brazilian’s effort deflects up and into the far corner.

But the celebrations are cut short by the flag and replays confirm it’s just about the right call.

16:17 , Malik Ouzia

59 mins: Lacazette took a bit of a chance a few minutes ago with a slight tug on the shoulder of McLean at a corner but VAR decided against asking for anything more.

16:14 , Malik Ouzia

56 mins: It’s not been as slick from Arsenal at the start of this second half. They actually went into a similar lull when cruising against Leeds last week before the arrival of Emile Smith Rowe helped liven things up - wonder if Arteta might be thinking of a change shortly.

16:10 , Malik Ouzia

51 mins: Bukayo Saka is down in a heap after being caught from behind by Williams but there wasn’t loads in it, to be honest.

16:07 , Malik Ouzia

48 mins: No change in the pattern of play but Norwich aren’t helping themselves. Three times they have chances to clear, three times Arsenal nick it back, and Tierney eventually lets fly again but Aarons makes the block.

KICK-OFF!

16:03 , Malik Ouzia

We are back underway...

16:01 , Malik Ouzia

All very comfortable for Arsenal so far but Mikel Arteta will be delighted to have gotten that second goal. Norwich were just starting to grow into the game but that may well prove a killer blow.

HT: Norwich 0-2 Arsenal

15:48 , Malik Ouzia

They’ve been utterly dominant and Arsenal are deservedly two to the good at the break.

Simon Collings is at Carrow Road

15:46 , Malik Ouzia

That is a brilliant goal from Tierney. He’s gone up a few gears since Nuno put his place under threat.

GOAL! Norwich 0-2 Arsenal | Kieran Tierney 44’

15:44 , Malik Ouzia

Brilliant.

Norwich go chasing on the Arsenal right but the visitors are composed and they switch the play brilliantly through Odegaard, who carves a ball in behind for Tierney to run onto.

The Scot has plenty to do but takes it in his stride and then guides a terrific finish in off the far post.

15:42 , Malik Ouzia

Someone has lit the touch paper and there is suddenly tons of needle in this. Arsenal and Norwich players flying into tackles, squaring up to each other.

15:41 , Malik Ouzia

39 mins: Well, there’s a bit of a set-to between both sets of players after Martinelli is caught late in the middle of the park.

Moments later, Xhaka makes a strong but fair tackle on Josh Sergeant and is booked for it. Harsh.

15:38 , Malik Ouzia

37 mins: Well, that’s quite remarkable. Martinelli feeds Tierney on the overlap and he pulls back into the box but his pass somehow splits all five of the players in blue who might’ve tucked it away.

15:34 , Malik Ouzia

34 mins: Finally, Norwich have started to string a few passes together and actually ask some questions of the Arsenal defence in the last five minutes or so. It has at least got the crowd up as well.

15:30 , Malik Ouzia

29 mins: Arsenal look a threat every time they come forward, there’s just so much space.

This time, Martinelli cuts inside and sees his shot loop up of a defender. Saka can’t resist a crack at the overhead kick but gets it all wrong and shins high over the bar.

15:28 , Malik Ouzia

27 mins: Decent chance for Arsenal to make it two, as Saka continues to torment his man and clips a cross in for Lacazette but the forward is coming at it from an awkward angle and can’t divert his header on target.

Feels like a matter of time, though...

15:27 , Malik Ouzia

26 mins: That’s frustrate Mikel Arteta. Arsenal bypass the press really well and are away but Saka’s pass out to Tierney is deflected off the referee and the play’s pulled back.

15:23 , Malik Ouzia

23 mins: Odegaard’s hobbling around after being caught by McLean. It was a definite foul but nothing given. Looks like a sore one but nothing lasting and he’ll run it off.

15:18 , Malik Ouzia

17 mins: Lovely feet from Odegaard, who is running the show, and his little disguised pass is so good that it also fools Lacazette. The Frenchman would’ve been in if he’d just let it run across him but he controls instinctively and is crowded out.

15:13 , Malik Ouzia

12 mins: Thomas Partey looks much more like his old self recently, He’s just pinged a lovely cross-field ball, first time to Saka, and he looks in the mood. Having Xhaka alongside him must help.

A nice goal from Arsenal. There has been a marked change in recent weeks where they are pressing higher to win the ball. We saw the benefits of it there, excellent from Tierney.

GOAL! Norwich 0-1 Arsenal | Bukayo Saka 6'

15:08 , Malik Ouzia

Didn’t take long!

Arsenal nick it high up the pitch and they’re away, with Lacazette, then Martinelli and then Odegaard eventually laying into Saka. The winger checks inside onto his left and then slides low into the bottom corner. Too easy.

KICK-OFF!

15:01 , Malik Ouzia

We are underway...

14:55 , Malik Ouzia

Right then, five minutes to go and the teams will be out any minute now. Fingers crossed for a good’un.

14:42 , Malik Ouzia

Emile Smith Rowe really is being made to work for his appearances at the moment. The England international was in terrific form before picking up an injury and has scored off the bench in each of his last two games after returning but is still only among the subs today.

With the quick turnaround to Wolves on the 28th, he’ll surely come into the lineup next time out.

14:29 , Malik Ouzia

That right-back conundrum really is remarkable for Arsenal.

They’ve got their two specialist right-backs out with Covid, plus their next two most likely deputies. It looks like Ben White will start there, which, in fairness, he has done before for Brighton.

Arsenal looked too hot to handle versus Leeds and another away day at a struggling side should yield a similar result.

Arsenal to win, 3-0.

Arsenal team news

13:21 , Malik Ouzia

Arteta will decide whether to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in from the cold. Aubameyang has missed the last four games since being dropped and stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach.

Arsenal made plenty of changes for their Carabao Cup win over Sunderland and they are likely to revert back to the team that beat Leeds ahead of this trip to Norwich.

A big debate for Arteta is what to do with Emile Smith Rowe as the attacking midfielder now faces competition for his spot out wide.

Gabriel Martinelli has impressed in recent games and will hope to keep his place on the left hand side.

There are also concerns over Takehiro Tomiyasu, who sustained a muscle issue at Leeds and was rested for the game against Sunderland.

Norwich team news

For Norwich, Christoph Zimmermann (foot), Andrew Omobamidele (back) and Grant Hanley (shoulder) are set to miss out for the Canaries but Milot Rashica and Mathias Normann (both groin) could return.

Lukas Rupp, Joshua Sargent and Pierre Lees-Melou all sat out recent action due to Covid-19, with manager Smith yet to confirm if they are available.

Merry Christmas!

12:52 , Malik Ouzia

Hope you all had a cracker yesterday and are now settled in for the traditional Boxing Day feast of football.

We’ve not got quite the full fixture list but things are looking better on the Covid postponement front than they were last weekend.

Arsenal have been pretty fortunate so far, with none of their games called off - can they take advantage and continue their excellent recent form this afternoon?

Good afternoon!
