The fashion bible reported that Naveen Cavale, a London-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has seen three times the normal number of people requesting consultations in July, August and September.
The surgeon added that he is now carrying out twice as many nose jobs as he had been in January.
“I’m having to open up extra operating lists and days, which is something I’ve not done in years,” Cavale said.
“A common theme that seems to be coming up in consultations is that patients have spent a lot of time staring at their reflection – far more than they would normally.”
Taking part in more video calls, via sites like Zoom, for work and social purposes is one of the key suggested drivers behind the trend.
Natasha Page, a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy-accredited integrative counsellor, believes the way we have been forced to adapt our lives has had an “impact” on our self-confidence.
She told Vogue that it “may indeed trigger new negative thoughts about one’s appearance that they may not have noticed or thought about before”.
Rhinoplasty is an operation that changes the shape or size of the nose, according to the NHS.
It is not available via the health service for cosmetic reasons, but can be carried out if the patient is having trouble breathing.
Undergoing the procedure privately can cost between £4,000 and £7,000 in the UK.
