Nottingham Forest ace walking a tightrope amid Evangelos Marinakis stadium ban latest
Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates will have to walk something of a tightrope over the next few weeks.
The Reds skipper was booked in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat away to Arsenal. And that means he is close to being hit with a suspension.
Players who pick up a total of five yellow cards in the first 19 Premier League matches of the season will automatically receive a one-match ban. Yates going into referee Simon Hooper’s notebook at the Emirates Stadium has put him on four bookings for the campaign so far.
The 27-year-old is one of 28 players throughout the division currently on four yellow cards and one away from having to sit out a game. The sanction increases to a two-match suspension if a player is booked 10 times across their first 32 Premier League matches.
The Premier League website states yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup. Forest midfielder Nicolas Dominguez has been cautioned four times so far this term, but one of those yellow cards came in August’s Carabao Cup tie with Newcastle United so does not count towards the five-bookings cut-off.
Elliot Anderson and Neco Williams are also on three yellow cards from Premier League games. The Reds have played 12 league matches so far and will rack up their 19th game on December 29 when they make the trip to face Everton.
Yates has featured in all 12 of Forest’s league games this term and has started the last seven. He is likely to keep his place in the line-up again when Ipswich Town visit the City Ground on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Nuno Espirito Santo's side go into the game looking to bounce back from successive defeats.
Should he choose to do so, Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis is permitted to attend the clash against the Tractor Boys after completing his five-match stadium ban. The Greek was not able to attend the fixtures against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, West Ham United, Newcastle and Arsenal due to being sanctioned for “improper behaviour” around the City Ground tunnel area after the 1-0 loss to Fulham in September.
