Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten away run came to an end in the capital as they fell 3-0 to Arsenal on their return to Premier League action after the international break.

The Reds went into the game in the capital without injured duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson. They were looking to bounce back from the defeat they suffered to Newcastle United last time out but got off to a slow start against the Gunners.

Arsenal fired a couple of early warning signals - including having a Jurrien Timber goal chalked off for offside. But the visitors failed to take heed and fell behind with 15 minutes on the clock.

Bukayo Saka was allowed to dance his way across the penalty area before firing past Matz Sels. And it could have been even worse for Forest by the break as their opponents created plenty of openings.

Opportunities were few and far between at the other end of the pitch. Ryan Yates and Nicolas Dominguez both had headed chances from set-pieces but couldn’t get them on target.

Thomas Partey then doubled the hosts’ lead soon after the interval and left Nuno Espirito Santo’s side with a mountain to climb. Fellow substitute Ethan Nwaneri added gloss to the scoreline for the Gunners in the closing stages. Here’s how Reds reporter Sarah Clapson rated the Forest players at the Emirates Stadium.

Matz Sels: Kept Forest in it for as long as he could with some smart saves while it was still 1-0. Could do little about the first two conceded as the defending in front of him was not great. Rating: 5.5/10

Ola Aina: Afternoon might have panned out differently had Hudson-Odoi got on the end of the full-back’s inviting ball across the box early on. Had to be careful after picking up a booking just before the break. Rating: 5.5/10

Nikola Milenkovic: Forest’s defending has been a strong point this season, but not on this occasion. Did make a solid last-ditch clearance in the first half when the scoreline was still only 1-0, though. Rating: 5.5/10

Murillo: Some important clearances to try to keep the Reds in the game after they had gone behind. Overall, though, the visitors were far from at their best at the Emirates. Rating: 5.5/10

Alex Moreno: Given a torrid time by Saka all afternoon. Simply couldn’t handle the Arsenal man - not that he will be the only Premier League defender to suffer such a fate this season. Rating: 4/10

Ryan Yates: Had a couple of headed chances which he would probably have hoped to do better with as neither were on target. Putting a stamp on this game was difficult, though. Rating: 5/10

James Ward-Prowse: Needed to do better for Saka’s opener, and arguably should have closed down Partey for the second. Midfield as a whole found it difficult to get a grip on proceedings. Rating: 4/10

Anthony Elanga: Had a couple of threatening moments in the first half when he ran down the right, but couldn’t make the most of them. Needed a bit of treatment after picking up a knock, which perhaps partly explains his substitution at half-time. Rating: 5/10

Nicolas Dominguez: Tough going for the Argentine - not that he was alone on that front. Not at the level of some of his recent excellent performances, albeit against quality opponents who were on it from the start. Rating: 5/10

Callum Hudson-Odoi: Didn’t see a great deal of the ball, especially in the opening 45 minutes. Looked a bit brighter in the closing stages but it was virtually all over by that point. Rating: 5.5/10

Taiwo Awoniyi: Big opportunity for the front man as he made only his second Premier League start of the season. Looked pretty sharp but was living off scraps so barely had any kind of glimpse of goal. Rating: 5.5/10

Subs

Jota Silva (for Elanga, 46mins): Thought he had grabbed a late goal for the visitors but was denied by the offside flag. Difficult to have a big effect on proceedings. Rating: 6/10

Ramon Sosa (for Dominguez, 63mins): Positive when he came on. Created a decent chance for Yates with a good cross from the right. Rating: 6/10

Chris Wood (for Awoniyi, 63mins): No doubt needed a rest after racking up the air miles while on international duty. Not much he could do by the time he came on, although he did block a Jota shot Rating: 5.5/10

Neco Williams (for Moreno, 72mins): Game was already over with by the time the Welshman came on. Nevertheless, Arsenal still looked to cause problems. Rating: 5.5/10

Subs not used: Miguel, Morato, Toffolo, Moreira, Boly.
